Newsletter 4-21-17

Dear Parents and Guardians, Thanks for scheduling time to come in and meet with me for a conference! It was wonderful to celebrate your child’s accomplishments so far this year. We are looking forward to the field trip to the New England Aquarium and IMAX Theatre in Boston on May 31st. Our two chaperones are Deb Mullen and Kristin Schrempf. If you still want to go on this field trip, you can drive or carpool with other parents. Once you are there, you can help the chaperones with the students in their group. It should be an informative and exciting field trip for the second graders! To celebrate Earth Day, 2R and 4W worked in the Bakie School garden and dug up bulbs and replanted them. We also removed grass to prepare the path for wood chips. Thanks to Amanda Welvers for directing our efforts and helping to make the garden a place of beauty. Are you wondering how our community project is going? Check out the blog under the teacher pages on the Bakie website. It is called Sanborn Explores Student Agency. sanbornexplores.blogspot.com This week 2R welcomed a new student named Logan Cooke to our class. He moved to Kingston with his family from Exeter. We are excited to have him join the Bakie School community! In the Classroom In Writer’s Workshop, we are finishing up our IIM research project and written report. The next step is to write a brochure about our animal. When we return from vacation, we will be writing realistic fiction books and sharing this at the Second Grade Showcase on May 18th. In Math, we just finished Unit 7. When school starts again, Unit 8 will begin. Have a wonderful Spring vacation! See you back at school on Monday, May 1st!
