Dear Parents and Guardians,
Scholastic Book Fair is coming to
Bakie from Monday, November 28 – Friday, December 2!!
Our class is scheduled to browse for
book on Tuesday, November 29. This gives
the kids a chance to look for books and add them to their wish list which they
will bring home. On Thursday, December
1, we will be going back to the book fair to buy our books. Please send in a check with your child for
their purchase!
In the Classroom
In Writer’s Workshop, we are
writing personal narratives. They will
be writing a Thanksgiving memory which we call small moments. They are also starting the process of writing
an informational report on any animal of their choice. They will be researching their animal using a
website called Pebble-Go and getting books from the library to write down facts
about their animal.
In Reader’s Workshop, the focus
in guided reading groups has been on fiction with the focus on
comprehension strategies. The first
strategy they are focusing on is questioning. Asking questions before, during and after a
story helps us to understand the story better.
We have an owl named Questioning Owl who represents this strategy to the
kids!
In Math, we have begun Unit
3. This unit helps kids develop
strategies for solving subtraction facts.
One of the games the kids seem to like is called Salute. This game helps them find missing
addends. Please keep the number line at
home if your child wants it! We have
plenty here at school.
