Newsletter 11-3-17

Dear Parents and Guardians, 2R welcomes a new boy into our classroom. Logan Andrews just joined 2R last week! It was wonderful to meet with the first group of parents and to share how your child is doing in second grade. Thanks for helping your child remember to keep toys and stuffed animals at home. It is easy for them to end up in backpacks which become a distraction at school. I am looking forward to the next conferences on Thursday, Nov. 9th. I hope to meet with 100% of my families so that we can talk about our partnership for your child’s learning! Class DoJo is a great tool for communication. Feel free to use it as another way to reach me! In the Classroom In Writer’s Workshop, the class wrote Halloween clues as part of their first QPA (Quality Performance Assessment). They used adjectives to describe their costume. They read their paper and asked classmates to figure out what costume they were describing. It was a fun way for the kids to showcase their writing and to learn how important adjectives are for adding detail. Please help your child study for the upcoming second grade word test on Monday, 11/6. Math – Keep working with your child on the facts packet that was sent home earlier in the year. If you need another copy, please let me know. I am thrilled to be using Xtra Math to reinforce automaticity with the facts and hope you try it at home too. Science - Pumpkin Day was fabulous! The children worked with a partner and rotated through centers to conduct experiments with a pumpkin. All the children enjoyed the activities! The next QPA will be in science and it will be a chance for them to show their understanding of seed dispersal.
