Dear Parents and Guardians,
The second grade had a wonderful field trip to the SEE Science Center in Manchester! Thank you to all the chaperones who came along to help the second grade teachers! The kids had so much fun exploring the center and making silly putty in the science lab! I took photos that I have shared with you through Class DoJo. It was a great day of learning and fun!
The Scholastic Book Fair is coming right after the Thanksgiving Holiday. Our class will browse the book fair on Monday, November 27 and purchase books on Wednesday, November 29. Your child will fill out a wish list on Monday and send it home for your approval. If you would prefer to shop with your child instead of sending in a check, the fair runs late on Thursday evening, 11/30.
In the Classroom
In Writer’s Workshop, the class came up with a list of things they are thankful for and wrote it to share with you. I hope you enjoy their thoughtful ideas and thankful words.
Math – We just finished Unit 3. After the Thanksgiving holiday break, we will begin Unit 4 which introduces the concept of telling time. Most children are used to reading digital clocks and have little experience with analog clocks. If you have an analog clock on the wall, make little post-it stickers to attach to each number counting by 5’s. When they look at the clock it will reinforce the minutes.
Science – Our science QPA (Quality Performance Assessment) was on seed dispersal. Students worked with a partner or independently on a project of their choice that showed their understanding of the ways seeds are dispersed. Many students chose to make videos and uploaded them to their digital portfolio called Seesaw. Some students wrote books or drawings complete with labels and colorful pictures. I hope you get a chance to look at your child’s work on this informative project. If you need help with Seesaw, please let me know!
Happy Thanksgiving! Mrs. Reagan
