Dear Parents and Guardians,
2R welcomes a new student named
Brooke Chenowith who just moved to Kingston from Manchester with her
mother. I hope you are enjoying the
December reading calendar. Please send
in, or email pictures of your child reading if you can. These will be displayed on our bulletin board
in front of the classroom. Examples: Reading in the car, or with stuffed animals
or maybe even reading under the Christmas tree!!
During the winter months, please
make sure your child comes to school dressed for the snow. Snow pants, snow boots, mittens or gloves and
a hat are required for them to play in the snow.
Since we have PE three times per
week, please make sure they also pack sneakers or you could leave an extra pair
at school.
In the Classroom
In Writer’s Workshop, the kids
are writing lists for Santa and preparing to turn the list into a letter to be
sent to the North Pole.
During the next two weeks, we will be
reading lots of holiday books. We will
focus on author’s craft with books by Jan Brett such as The Mitten, and The
Hat to name a few. We are also
reading Brave Irene by William Steig and the kids are creating their own
ending to the story.
In Math, we have begun Unit 4. Children extend their understanding of place
value, which provides a foundation for the development of strategies for
fluently adding and subtracting multidigit numbers later in second grade. They also explore standard tools for
measuring length and for telling time.
Please keep up the practice at home with the value and identification of
coins.
