Dear Parents and Guardians,
Thank you for taking the time to meet with me
for Parent/Teacher conferences and for sharing your Hopes and Dreams for your
child’s second grade year.
In the Classroom
In Writer’s Workshop, the
students are learning how to add adjectives to their writing which makes
their writing more interesting and helps add detail. The focus in word work has been on
R-controlled vowels. Please help your
child study for the upcoming second grade word test on Friday, 10/21. This test will cover all four weeks of
accountable words (16 words). A review
sheet will be sent home.
In Reader’s Workshop, the focus
in guided reading groups has been on Informational Text (non-fiction)
and learning about the text features. During the read aloud, I have been reading a
chapter book called Best Enemies and the kids are learning about character
traits.
Math - I hope you have been enjoying math game night with your
child! So far you have learned how to
play penny plate and turning over 10. Game night is a fun way to reinforce the
concepts being taught in class. The
dollar bill, ten dollar bill and hundred dollar bill was introduced to their “bank”
of coins. They are playing trading games
using coins and bills.
Science
- Pumpkin Day – Friday, October 28 Please
send in a small pumpkin for your child to do scientific observations and
experiments with!
As always, please feel
free to contact me if there is anything I can do to attend to your child’s
educational needs. My contact information is below.
